A memorial gathering of friends and relatives will be held Friday, September 23, starting at 3:00 PM at the Milwaukee Catholic Home, 2462 N. Prospect Ave.

(nee Hammond). Died Thursday, September 15, 2011 at the age of 86. Originally from Kenosha, then Appleton, Milwaukee, Denver and finally Milwaukee. Preceded in death by her husband Lee Baker and brother Michael Hammond. Dear mother of Jane Rahman of Milwaukee, Mary Ellen Takayama of Anaheim, CA., and Peter Otto of Atlanta, GA. Sister of Ann (Jack) Seher of TX., James Hammond of San Mateo, CA., Laurence C. (Pat) Hammond, Jr. of Milwaukee, WI., and Chris (Joanne) of Weaverville, CA. Jean is further survived by several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Jean had a distinguished career in the newspaper industry as a writer, editor and leader of local and national journalistic organizations. She will be missed by all who loved her. The family thanks the Milwaukee Catholic Home personnel who provided her with understanding care in her final years.
